By completing all of these tutorial exercises, I have indeed gained more knowledge about drawing skills that I can use in the future as an architecture student.
Project 1
Analysis Report (25% Group)
The students will conduct research and architectural analysis in a group from the given list of buildings. We chose the Sultan Abdul Samad building. In the group, we are required to create an A4 digital booklet and an A1 Augmented Reality Poster.
A4 DIGITAL BOOKLET
AUGMENTED REALITY POSTER
Reflection
Throughout this entire group project, it was a fun and enjoyable experience for me because I had the opportunity to collaborate with my friends. We were able to choose our own group after the briefing given by the lecturer. Additionally, we all visited the Sultan Abdul Samad building as a group to conduct more research about it. This group project was also very convenient as it needed to be done digitally, saving a significant amount of time for us as architecture students. Moreover, everyone was very helpful to each other, readily offering assistance whenever needed.
TGC Acquired
Thinking and Problem Solving Skills :
We all initially faced challenges with the augmented reality poster, as it was something new to us. However, we ended up discovering more about the app as we persisted in trying different approaches. Initially, when we attempted to visit the site, it was not accessible due to the need for permission. Subsequently, my group mates revisited the site on another free day to gather additional information about the Sultan Abdul Samad building.
Communication Skills :
By completing this group project, our team had several meetings with each other and also met with the lecturer to check on our progress. We communicated effectively, both through social media and face-to-face interactions, as we have known each other for a long time.
Project 2
Sketching Analysis (25% Individual)
The students will conduct research and architectural analysis on five buildings chosen from the provided list. Additionally, we must color all five buildings, manually draw them, and add more fun and interesting information about each building.
a4 SKETCHES BOOKLET
Reflection
Completing this project was a lot of fun for me because I had previously done a similar task during my foundation, making it easier this time. Additionally, I enjoyed drawing and coloring the five buildings I selected, which further enhanced my coloring skills, especially since I used watercolor as the medium.
TGC Acquired
Discipline Specific Knowledge
With this TGC, I was able to focus more on the details of each building, and I could transfer all the information I gathered onto one piece of paper using architectural lettering and my drawing skills.
Lifelong Learning
I learned a lot from this project, especially as I used watercolor as the medium. I gained insights into blending colors effectively and rendering my drawings. All of these skills will be useful in the future.
Thinking and Problem Solving Skills
I was contemplating the arrangement of information for each building on paper, but I was unsure about what to do. Eventually, I discovered that I could create the layout first on Canva, show it to my tutor, and then proceed to draw all the information on a piece of paper.
Overall Reflection
Engaging in the tutorial exercises has not only been an enjoyable experience but also a valuable opportunity for personal and academic growth. Through drawing and sketching during my free time, I've discovered the pleasure of honing my skills and unleashing my creativity. This process not only benefits my artistic ability but also contributes to my overall well-being. Additionally, delving into architectural history has been enlightening. The newfound knowledge not only enriches my understanding of the subject but also positions me to excel in my exams. The blend of creative expression and academic learning in architecture has made this journey a fulfilling and well-rounded experience.
Participating in the group project added another layer to my architectural education. Collaborating with friends provided a dynamic and enjoyable learning environment. The freedom to choose our group allowed for effective teamwork, and the group's visit to the Sultan Abdul Samad building enhanced our research.
