ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 1
In the first week of class, students are required to bring an onion/capsicum and carve it into whatever face they desire. The students must then draw four drawings from different views and one exploded axonometry as our first exercise.
Project 1
Geometry & Form : Architectural Design Elements & Principles (10% Individual)
Students must choose one ordering principle from the given lists. I chose hierarchy, and we need to explore the chosen ordering principle in form and volume (model) using primary elements such as point, line, and plane. The next part involves representing your chosen ordering principle in combination with the primary elements. The last part will be the drawing phase, where you will need to draw, render, and shade four tattoo stamps of your model in a 1:1 scale.
Reflection
This is my project for AD1 as I enter degree life, and I didn't struggle that much as I had already learned a lot from my foundation years. This is a good start for me. After I finished my critique with the tutor, I indeed learned more, and I'm in that phase where I'm still discovering aspects of architecture. I should always reflect back on whatever I have already done and aim to improve more in the future. However, my tutor said it was good work, so I'm really glad about that.

Structure & Body : Materials, Anthropometric & Ergonomic Exploration-1 : 1 Bamboo Activity Structure
(30% Group)
In a group of 20 members, the students must design and construct 1:1 bamboo structure
THE COVE SLIDES
Reflection
This is my first time working with such a large group, and it was challenging initially because I didn't know half of the members. However, as we consistently met for model making, discussions, and bamboo building days, we got to know each other better, and I made new friends. We collaborated effectively, sticking to our schedule with different groups working in the morning, evening, and night. Everyone put in a tremendous effort and hard work to complete the bamboo structure on time.
It was a unique experience for me, and despite the challenges, it was very memorable. We had a lot of fun together during the model-making process, even though it faced multiple rejections. The time spent in workshops, on campus, or in the studio all day, coupled with breaks and meals together, created moments that will stay with me until I grow old. While there were times when I didn't agree with some group members, we managed to sort things out.
From the first day of this project until our exhibition day, I am grateful for my teammates for their cooperation, and this bond is something I will always remember.

Reflection
Reflecting on my last project involving model making and its corresponding drawings, I found the experience to be highly educational and skill-enhancing. The hands-on nature of model making allowed me to explore spatial relationships and materiality, strengthening my understanding of architectural concepts. Overcoming challenges in decision-making and problem-solving during the model-making process contributed significantly to my skill set.
Creating precise drawings for the model, including orthographic drawings and axonometric views, further developed my proficiency in architectural representation. This project served as a bridge between conceptualization and physical manifestation, emphasizing the importance of both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in architecture. As I move forward, I look forward to applying these insights to future projects and continuing to refine my abilities in the architectural design process.

Overall Reflection
Architectural Design 1 has been a transformative journey encompassing model making, building bamboo structures as a group, and various drawing exercises. In the initial weeks, the class commenced with a unique and creative task involving carving onions/capsicums into desired faces and creating four drawings from different views, including an exploded axonometry. This marked the beginning of my degree life, and having already acquired foundational knowledge, I navigated this project with relative ease. The positive feedback from my tutor affirmed my progress, motivating me to continually reflect on my work and aspire for future improvement.
Working in a large group, particularly on the bamboo structure project, was both challenging and rewarding. Initially unfamiliar with half of the members, consistent meetings for model making and bamboo building fostered effective collaboration, leading to the formation of new friendships. Despite the challenges, such as multiple rejections during the model-making process, the experience was memorable and enjoyable. The shared moments in workshops, on campus, and in the studio, along with breaks and meals, created enduring memories that will stay with me.
The model-making project provided a hands-on exploration of spatial relationships and materiality, enhancing my understanding of architectural concepts. Overcoming challenges in decision-making and problem-solving during this process significantly contributed to the development of my skill set. The creation of precise drawings, including orthographic and axonometric views, further refined my proficiency in architectural representation. This project served as a vital bridge between conceptualization and physical manifestation, emphasizing the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in architecture.
As I reflect on the culmination of these experiences, I see Architectural Design 1 as a foundational chapter in my architectural journey. The skills gained from model making, group collaboration, and various drawing exercises have equipped me with a well-rounded understanding of the design process. Moving forward, I am eager to apply these insights to future projects, continuously refining my abilities and contributing to the evolving field of architecture.
